Joshua Tree Wildflowers

I went out with one of my advanced students for a private one-on-one lesson in Joshua Tree National Park last week. With the recent rains and subsequent warm weather, I was pretty optimistic that the wildflowers would be bloomin'.

Well...They were.

We saw all sorts of flowers on the drive in, but we decided to stop and shoot at a location in the south end of the park where Desert Dandelions blanketed the ground near a beautiful overlook of the Pinto Basin and Pinto Mountains to the North. The stunning colors and views combined with the mild weather and good company of my student made the trip a real pleasure. Had we thought to bring bug repellant, the day would have been perfect! Laguna Beach Waves

It's been a little while since I've posted any new work - it's been mostly words lately - but I went out to Laguna Beach a couple weeks ago as part of my Landscape Photography Class held in Irvine and I was able to get a few shots. Not my most ground-breaking work in my opinion...but they are still decent enough to share.

On this first one, I couldn't decide which wave pattern I liked the best so I tried arranging them in a triptych instead and it came out as my favorite. Click the image above to see a bigger version.

Thanks for stopping by!

Apr 10 Crystal Cove Workshop Results

I held a workshop out in Crystal Cove State Park on April 10th with a great group of students. The marine layer prevented a the sunset from showing any real color, but nevertheless, we made the most out of the scene. Here are my shots from the day. The first one is looking away from the ocean - something I don't often find myself doing at Crystal Cove, but these flowers were begging for a shot. It was taken with a circular polarizer to richen the sky.

This next one is more like one of my classic Crystal Cove shots. It was taken with a 2-stop hard transition split ND and a 1-stop hard transition split ND (place at different "heights").

Thank you to my wonderful students for attending! I hope you all learned a thing or two!
