Nov 15 San Onofre Workshop Results

To cap off an incredibly busy weekend, I held a Sunset in San Onofre Photography Workshop on November 15th. It was a great group to go out with and the sunset, although cloudless, turned out to be quite beautiful with the way it reflected off the wet sand. One of my favorite things about San Onfore State Park is just how empty the beach is. It seems like every time I go out there, I only see a handful of people. Plus, the unique, round, smooth rocks that cover the beach are always great subjects. Here are my pictures from the trip:

Thank you to my attendees for being such great students! I hope to see you all again real soon!

Nov 13 Laguna Beach Workshop Results

Had a little Laguna Beach Outing Workshop yesterday at...you guessed it...Laguna Beach. The sunset was nothing spectacular, but my students were fun and a pleasure to work with! I was able to get some shots of my own while we were out there.

New Filters and Pictures

Well, I finally decided to treat myself to an entirely new set of filters. I've been shooting on the Cokin system for years with Singh-Ray (and before that, Hitech) filters, but I kept running into the filters just being a little too small. I upgraded to the Lee system with its 4"x6" filters. They are absolutely sublime...

My complete system includes the following:

  • Lee filter holder and 77mm wide-angle adapter ring
  • Lee 1-stop soft transition grad ND
  • Lee 2-stop soft transition grad ND
  • Lee 3-stop soft transition grad ND
  • Lee 1-stop hard transition grad ND
  • Lee 2-stop hard transition grad ND
  • Lee 3-stop hard transition grad ND
  • Lee 3-stop solid ND
  • Lee circular polarizer
  • Lee 10-filter wallet

...mouth watering.

I decided to test out my sweet new filters with a little photo shoot in the nearby Cleveland National Forest. I found a great, big, old oak tree in a beautiful meadow out in Tenaja Canyon that I figured would be the perfect subject. Here are the results...
